Two arrested for making fake car documents

This is the first time an arrest of this scale has been made in the region, police have said.

Two persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the production of fake vehicle registration and travel documents.

The arrest was made on Monday by the police in the Upper East region in conjunction with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

The two - Moro Bukari, 52, and Awal Mohammed, 29 - were grabbed after a raid on their hideouts in Kumasi where they allegedly fabricate such illegal materials for many people in the Upper East region.

Items such as laptops, embossment machines, stamps, a generator, staplers, printers, et cetera- were also retrieved.

The two suspects were paraded Tuesday morning in shared handcuffs.

Their fake materials, including driver’s license cards, birth certificates, insurance stickers, local and foreign registration number plates and travel passports among others were also put on display by the police.

According to the DVLA, about 1,000 fake number plates have so far been seized since it launched a swoop operation over 3 months ago in the region.

It warned that it would not spare anyone found dealing with any individual or group involved in the production of counterfeit vehicle licence documents.
